How it all started
The Spice night was originally organised by a group of parents to have an adult party away from the kids!!!. Although the motives were to party, the event also raised over two thousand pounds for school. This event has since become part of our calendar.
Omar Puente & Fosps
Omar Puente is a renowned international musician who lives locally. He was approached by a group of the parents while playing locally and asked to play for the school. Expecting him to say no, he surprised them by agreeing!!! And the rest is history
About Omar Puente
His instrument is violin. In fact he teaches it as well!!! At the spice night, he is normally accompanied by his band Cubania & Students from Leed College of Music: he is a leading Cuban violinist and is part of a generation of musicians that shaped Cuban music, calling themselves 'Nueva Generacion'. Born in Santiago de Cuba, Omar learned his love of violin from his father and studied at Estaban Salas, Santiago's finest music school. He is an influential musician who has worked with renowned artists such as Ruben Gonzales (Buena Vista Social Club) and recently appeared along side Courtney Pine and most famous about his involvement with Denys Baptiste international tour. Omar Puente is also lecturer at Leeds College of Music and Trinity College in London. You can listen to Omar & Cubania by clicking on the tracks on the right.
